About Dr. Mancini

I hold a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the American Psychological Association accredited program at Fairleigh Dickinson University and am a Pennsylvania-licensed psychologist. I have over 20 years of broad and extensive clinical experience. Throughout my graduate career, I worked with a wide range of populations from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds in both inpatient and outpatient settings throughout the New York City metropolitan area. In addition, I taught full-time at the college and university level for 12 years, including serving as a faculty member in the Psy.D. program in clinical psychology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania for four years. I have been in clinical practice in the Pittsburgh area since 2008.

Therapy Approach

The goals of psychotherapy will depend on the individual. Some may wish to change old patterns of thinking or behavior, others may want to improve their relationships and communication with others, and still others may seek deeper meaning, or even some combination of these. Whatever one’s goals, I firmly believe that psychotherapy is not a “one size fits all” proposition. Instead, treatment should be tailored to the specific individual, couple, or family with whom I work. Some individuals prefer a more in-depth, insight-oriented approach while others prefer a more concrete skill-building, problem-solving approach. I tend to take an “eclectic” approach to therapy, drawing from a range of psychotherapeutic approaches such as psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and existential approaches to meet the individual’s needs.

Why Choose a Clinical Psychologist?

Clinical psychologists are the most highly trained of all mental health professionals to practice psychotherapy and conduct psychological evaluations. They are qualified to work with the widest range of problems of all levels of severity. Typically, doctoral-level clinical psychologists earn their degrees only after completing a five-year training program including four years of rigorous coursework, a one-year intensive full-time internship, and a dissertation. When one chooses a doctoral-level clinical psychologist for therapy, one can be assured that he or she is receiving care from the most well-informed and extensively trained professional.
